Fall Workshops and Special Series – Cambridge
Yoga Karunta – Working with Ropes and Sings – Saturday, October 21 – 2-4 PM
Karunta is a puppet. In Yoga Karunta one learns to manipulate oneself in the various yoga postures by means of suspended ropes. Working with wall ropes is one of the surest ways to enjoy effortless inversion, release the back, increase range of motion and develop strength and a sense of direction in difficult asanas. Working safely and knowledgeably, however, requires training and practice. This workshop will provide participants with a basic introduction to working with ropes. In this first in a series of Yoga karunta workshops we will develop the fundamental concepts of release, range of motion and strength, beginning with adho mukha svanasana (downward facing dog pose ) and its variations, rope standing poses, basic backbends, and variations of rope sirsasana (headstand) as appropriate.
Karunta or “puppet,” suggests that as we take up this practice we are like puppets on a string, except, as Geeta Iyengar writes, “Here the puppeteer and the puppet are one, performing their own puppet show.”
